Boldini. Ritratto di signora, Exhibition at GAM
With a series of works dating back to the first two decades of the 20th century, the exhibition Boldini. Ritratto di signora, comes from March 16 to June 17 2018 at GAM (Galleria d’Arte Moderna Milano), the largest municipal collection of 19th-century works. The exhibition highlights Boldini’s development of a modern, personal style in worldly and aristocratic feminine portraiture; a style that soon became highly in demand on an international scale.
A selection of 30 works, including paintings, drawings and pastels, on exceptional loan from the Museo Giovanni Boldini in Ferrara will be displayed in harmony with GAM’s own works by Boldini and Paul Helleu, the artist’s friend and follower and a co-protagonist of the Parisian Belle Epoque.
Giovanni Boldini lived and worked in Paris for most of his career. According to a 1933 article in Time magazine, he was known as the “Master of Swish” because of his flowing style of painting.
