Rotonda della Besana
Venue type: Venue
What is today considered as one of the most fascinating locations for exhibitions in Milan, the  Rotonda in via Besana,  used to be the town’s old cemetery: the complex of San Michele ai Nuovi Sepolcri or Foppone (the big pit).
In 1940, after a long abandonment, the Rotonda was handed over to the Municipality and after several restoration works, the open spaces were made a public garden, whereas the church became a permanent center for cultural and artistic events. Since the end of the 1960s, it has hosted a great many exhibitions.
The importance of the artists and the diversification of the genres (painting, sculpture, graphic, drawing, photography, architecture, comic, videoart and design – have made the Rotonda one of the most important centers of visual culture in Milan.
