European AIDS Conference at MiCo Milano Congressi

From October 25th to 27th, EACS 2017, the 16th European AIDS Conference organized by the European AIDS Clinical Society, was held at MiCo Milano Congressi, the Milan Convention Centre. The Conference saw the participation of the greatest topic experts coming from all over the world. Professor Antonella d’Arminio Monforte, current Professor of Infectious Diseases of the University of Milan and Head of San Paolo Ospital, was the local host and Co-Chair of the Conference. Below the interview:

Professor d’Arminio Monforte, can you share with us some figures about the Congress?

We have registered more than 3,000 delegates from Europe (90 percent), the United States and the rest of the world, 123 reporters, 150 infectious practitioners who presented highly-regarded scientific work, the most accredited European clinicians dealing with infection from HIV, representatives of the ECDC (European Center for Disease Prevention and Control), a large number of exhibitors and major pharmaceutical companies marketing anti-HIV drugs (Gilead, ViiV, Merck, Mylan).

What were the greatest results?

I would go from a non-scientific but very significant point of view, namely from the communication of the Councilor to the Social Policies of the Milan City Council, Pierfrancesco Majorino, who announced the city’s participation in Fast Track Cities. In fact, Milan committed to join the program to reset new HIV infections by 2030, an initiative launched in 2014 in Paris at the World Aids Day, counting now more than 60 participating cities today.

And from a scientific point of view?

A moment of great interest was the roundtable on the Preventing Care which confirmed the efficacy of PrEP in preventing contagion in patients at high risk of infection. Many more researches and studies about AIDS have been presented and will be soon released to the public.

Finally, your feedback about the company and venue that hosted EACS.

MiCo Milano Congressi has fully responded to our needs and all participants were very excited about the congress venue. I have only received positive opinions and feedback. In particular, it should be emphasized the perfect organization and the excellent location, in addition to the advanced wi-fi connection, which is very much appreciated and very important for the success of such a high profile conference.
