ESMO Award 2016 has gone to an Italian physician Sobrero

The ESMO Award 2016 – the prestigious recognition awarded every year (since 1985) by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) to a European researcher who has made a significant contribution to medical oncology – has gone to an Italian physician. The award winner is Dr. Alberto Sobrero, in charge of the Division of Medical Oncology of the “Ircss” scientific institute (with focus on hospitalization and treatment) San Martino of Genoa, for his research on the treatment of gastrointestinal tumours and studies on the benefits of new medicines.

The award ceremony took place in the course of the annual ESMO Congress held in Copenhagen from 7th – 11th October last, which saw the participation of over 19 thousand oncologists coming from every part of the world. Sobrero is the third Italian to receive the award of the European Society for Medical Oncology, after Alberto Costa (“Centro di Senologia Fondazione Maugeri” of Pavia) in 2010, and Cora Sternberg (“San Camillo Forlanini” of Rome) in 2013.

From 24th – 27th November next, another important appointment will see gathered at MiCo (Fiera Milano Congressi) oncologists, urologists, radiologists and pathologists from all over the world for the eighth edition of EMUC (European Meeting on Urological Cancers), the multidisciplinary conference dedicated to tumours of the genitourinary tract with a top-level scientific programme and reports entrusted to internationally-famous professionals. An ideal platform for sharing new knowledge and discussing problems relating to urological tumours and prospects in clinical practice.

As an additional complementary feature, on display in the exhibition halls of MiCo will be the most advanced technical equipment, pharmaceutical products and specialized publications, thus offering a complete panorama of the sector.
